In a groundbreaking collaboration, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and TK Array Lands Corporation have partnered to develop a mobile app designed to support wetland monitoring and survey efforts across Canada. This innovative tool equips scientists, environmental surveyors, and community members with an easy-to-use platform for recording and submitting wetland data directly from the field, ensuring real-time, place-based environmental data collection.
What sets this project apart is its deep commitment to Indigenous Knowledge preservation. The app is intentionally built to not only collect scientific metrics but also support the inclusion of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) from Indigenous communities across the country. It creates space for Indigenous voices to document relationships with land and water, safeguarding cultural knowledge alongside ecological data for generations to come.
By blending technology, science, and cultural stewardship, the ECCC–TK Array partnership reflects a new era of environmental collaboration—one that honors both Western science and Indigenous ways of knowing. This project strengthens Canada’s capacity to understand and protect wetlands while ensuring that the stories, practices, and wisdom of Indigenous peoples remain central in the ongoing care of the land.
