TK Array Lands Corp. has expanded its Wood Bison Monitoring project in northern Alberta, bringing field cameras and digital tools together to document wood bison activity over time.

In partnership with Tolko Industries, TK Array launched the project in December 2024 with 30 cellular cameras. The network has since grown to 50 cameras, extending the monitoring effort and creating more opportunities to record bison activity at camera locations.

A growing record of activity

Camera monitoring provides a way to observe wildlife at fixed locations over time. For this project, the images contribute to a record that can be reviewed to better understand when and where wood bison are observed within the monitored area.

Wood bison inhabit boreal and aspen forests and often forage in open meadows. They have ecological and cultural importance, including strong spiritual significance for Indigenous peoples. This broader context underscores the value of building a consistent record of their activity.

Connecting field images with iLands

As the camera network grows, organizing and reviewing the images is an important part of the monitoring work. TK Array has added a feature to iLands that filters images through the company's own AI model and generates reports based on its monitoring efforts.

These capabilities bring image review and reporting into the same workflow, helping the team organize camera records and present the information gathered through the project. AI-assisted filtering supports the review process, while reports provide a way to bring observations together for continued assessment.

Continuing the monitoring effort

The expanded camera network and iLands tools support TK Array's ongoing work with Tolko Industries to document wood bison activity in northern Alberta.

Through this project, TK Array is connecting work on the land with technology developed to support environmental monitoring. The focus remains on building a useful record of wood bison activity in northern Alberta and turning those observations into organized information.
